Level 2

Second Degree Reiki is a big commitment, both to yourself and to Reiki. It is not so much a “higher” level; it is not about status. It is about a deepening of your understanding of Reiki; about the continuation of the journey started with First Degree. It builds on those firm foundations and increases the vibrational frequency of the individual and the energetic connection. This in turn, takes personal development further. There are often emotional and spiritual shifts that do not happen after First Degree.

It is also a strengthening of a sense of empowerment. We always have something to offer with this level – from sending to distant friends to world situations. There is often a feeling of increasing trust in the Reiki process and sense of unity with the universe in all its aspects.

The whole training takes place over 2 – two-day periods, usually over weekends. On the first weekend the student is taught three Reiki Symbols, their mantras and how to use them to focus and connect with Reiki energy to send ‘distant’ healing. The role of the Five Precepts, meditation energy awareness, and developing good personal practice with Reiki are also closely examined in the class. There are three attunements, one for each symbol. It is an intense and powerful experience for most students.

After the first weekend, the student is asked to practice daily, either on himself/herself or others, and to keep some brief notes in a diary/journal. At a later date not less than 3 months the student returns to do weekend 2, the Review. I can then ensure he/she is using the symbols confidently and correctly. Most students find the review helpful, Second Degree is a deceptively simple process so most students find the review weekend helpful and affirmative, reminding them of points they had “forgotten”, or were unsure about. A certificate is only awarded on completion of the second weekend.

Second Degree is generally considered by therapy organisations, such as The Complementary Therapists Association (CThA – aka “EMBODY”) as practitioner level if it is to be used in therapeutic practice. To become a professional therapist additionally requires Anatomy & Physiology qualification, adhering to a Code of practice, Professional insurance, knowledge of practice management, and a First Aid Certificate. However taking Second Degree is not exclusive to people wishing to become Therapists – it is there for anyone who wishes to grow in understanding with Reiki, and who wish to further personal and spiritual development.

Reiki is a precious gift, we need to use it every day so that the process becomes part of us, as natural as breathing, and always with us.
